Arthur Canadian Reformed Church opened doors in 2022; holds services each Sunday

ARTHUR – Arthur Canadian Reformed Church recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of its inaugural service, which was held on Feb. 20, 2022.

“We are blessed to be the 67th Canadian Reformed Church instituted. Most of us have come from the overflow of the Elora, Fergus North and Grand Valley Canadian Reformed congregations,” states a press release from the church.

Canadian Reformed Churches find roots in the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. From the leadership of Martin Luther and later John Calvin the Reformed churches in Europe and eventually North America formed.

“We believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible and inerrant Word of God,” church officials state.

“It is the foundation of our faith and serves as a basis for all authority in our churches. Our creeds and confessions are The Apostle’s Creed, The Nicene Creed, The Athanasian Creed, The Belgic Confession, The Heidelberg Catechism, and The Canons of Dort.”

The Canadian Reformed Church federation was instituted after the Second World War when a large number of immigrants came from the Netherlands to North America.

The first congregations were instituted in 1950 in Edmonton (AB), Neerlandia (AB), and Orangeville (ON) and the first “Classis Canada” of the Canadian Reformed Churches was held on Nov. 4, 1954 in Carman Manitoba.

The local church has yet to receive a permanent minister,  but regularly welcomes neighboring guest ministers and students from the Canadian Reformed Theological Seminary.

“We are blessed to rent St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Arthur where we come together to worship the Lord each Sunday as His sinful children in need of His saving grace,” officials stated.

Services are held in rented facilities at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church at 149 Frederick Street East on Sundays at 9am and 2pm.
