WELLINGTON COUNTY – Ontario’s municipal and school board elections are taking place this fall.

Every four years in Ontario, elections are held for municipal officials and school board trustees for a four-year term in office.

The nomination period for the 2022 election runs from May 2 to Aug. 19, voting takes place on Oct. 24, results are declared the following day, and a new term of council begins Nov. 15.

Anyone who is a resident, owner, or tenant of property in the province, and a Canadian citizen 18 years of age or older on election day can vote.

Students can vote in the location where they are attending school, in addition to their home municipality.

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) uses resident information to crease a preliminary list of electors which is used by municipalities to construct their voters lists.

You must be on a voter’s list to cast a ballot.
