GUELPH – A Guelph woman spent a couple of days in jail after repeatedly threatening to commit crimes to protest mask legislation.
On April 4 at about 10:20am, Guelph Police Service was called to a business on Silvercreek Parkway North.
“A female customer had gone behind the counter and began throwing product around after she was denied service for not wearing a mask,” police stated in a press release. The woman was arrested for mischief, but as officers were explaining the process to be released, the woman indicated if she was released she would go back inside the business and repeat the behaviour.
“The female was transported to the police station, where she repeatedly stated if she was released she would attend other businesses and demand service without a mask,” police stated. “She said if she was denied service she would commit further criminal acts in protest.”
A 49-year-old Guelph woman was charged with mischief under $5,000. She was to appear in Guelph bail court on April 6.
