Alton man charged in two home invasions at same house

ERIN – Police have arrested and charged an Alton man in connection with two separate home invasions at the same residence here in January.

Wellington County OPP officials say police responded to the first incident, at a home on First Avenue in Erin, on Jan. 1 at about 8pm.

“Approximately $350 worth of various items were stolen and one occupant received minor injuries during the incident,” police stated in a May 26 press release.

At the time, police had asked for help to identify two suspects.

Less than three weeks later, on Jan. 19 at about 6pm, OPP officers were called to the same house for another home invasion.

“It was reported that a single suspect threatened the occupants with a baseball bat. The suspect fled the scene and no items were stolen,” police stated.

“Investigators determined that this suspect had also been involved in the earlier home invasion.”

Ethan J. Sketchley, 21, of Alton, was charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of break and enter and two counts of disguise with intent.

He is to appear in Guelph court on July 21.

Anyone with information regarding the second suspect in the first incident can contact D/C Watson with the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

The suspect is described as a white male with a thin build, deep voice, wearing dark clothing and a black ski mask.
