All Wellington County municipalities reducing services, operating with essential staff only

County waste facilities to close but curbside collection will continue

GUELPH – The county and all seven lower-tier municipalities in Wellington will be reducing services and operating with essential staff only.

The moves, part of the rapidly evolving local response to the COVID-19 pandemic, was announced by the county on March 18

“Following the advice of the prime minister and the premier, the county and all seven local municipalities will be further reducing services to just essential personnel with other staff expected to provide support when required,” said Warden Kelly Linton.

“These difficult decisions are necessary to help slow the rate of the COVID-19 virus. The county will continue to work with all seven local municipalities to operate essential services as best we can. We all need to do our part to protect our vulnerable populations.”

The county also announced the following changes at the upper tier:

  • all non-essential staff to work from home (available staff to be re-deployed as necessary to assist);
  • waste facilities closed to the public (curbside collection to continue); and
  • all non-essential deliveries halted.

The March 18 announcements are in addition to previous cancellations and closures announced by the county.

“The County of Wellington will continue to monitor the situation closely and we will be making all appropriate changes as necessary,” states the county press release.

The county is posting up-to-date information on social media and on its website.
