All municipal buildings in Minto will remain closed ‘indefinitely’

MINTO – Four days after reopening parks, sports fields and other amenities, the Town of Minto announced all municipal buildings will remain closed “indefinitely.”

“The Town of Minto continues to keep public safety as top priority during the unique circumstances surrounding COVID-19,” states the May 29 press release from the municipality.

Officials say the following will “remain closed indefinitely”:

  • the Minto municipal office;
  • arenas and curling clubs (except for pickle ball);
  • community halls;
  • museums and theatres;
  • playgrounds, pavilions and swimming pools; and
  • Launch It Minto and any other town-run facilities.

The town had previously extended the closures from April 6 to April 30 and then to May 31.

“Essential services such as fire, water, wastewater, road maintenance and minimal building services will be the only departments with staff operating at the municipal office,” states the May 29 town release.

“The rest of the municipal staff are continuing to work from home.”

Town officials say residents can call the municipal office and leave a voicemail and staff will return voicemails when possible. Residents can also use email whenever possible.

Minto announced on May 25 the following amenities are open:

  • ball diamonds and soccer fields;
  • green spaces, park benches and pedestrian bridges;
  • outdoor sports pads and tennis, basketball and shuffleboard courts; and
  • lawn bowling greens, pickleball venues and currently-open walking trails.
