Advertiser welcomes cartoonist to team

The Wellington Advertiser is excited to welcome Dan Hammond as a new weekly editorial cartoonist.

The 42-year-old Fergus resident has only been drawing for the last two years but has already published two comic books. He is also currently providing illustrations for children’s books and album art for a musician in Barrie.

Hammond attended Georgian College in Orangeville for emergency communications and says he never saw his career heading in this direction.

“I used to doodle as a kid but literally hadn’t picked up a pen or pencil in 20 years,” he says. “Then I went to a comic convention in Toronto and was looking in artist’s alley and said, ‘you know what, I can do this.’”

He says he has a “wicked imagination” and looks forward to illustrating for the Advertiser (his cartoon will appear on page 11 each week).

“We have contemplated an editorial cartoon for some time and were very fortunate to meet Dan,” said editor Chris Daponte.

“He has the drawing talent and sense of humour that makes him the perfect fit as a cartoonist. We hope to work with him for many years and hope our readers appreciate the new addition to our paper.”
