Drayton Skating Club hosts awards night

The Drayton Skating Club held its annual general meeting and awards night on March 31.

“We celebrated another year of great skating accomplishments by our skaters, including all levels of our CanSkate and StarSkate programs,” organizers state.

Each skater’s achievements were recognized with ribbons, badges or a summary of their Skate Canada tests passed this past year. Some of the individuals recognized include:

– CanSkater of the Year  Haleigh Klassen;

– CanSkate champions Marissa Martin and Abby Duimering;

– StarSkater of the Year Lizzy Klosa;

– Program Assistant of the Year  Sarah McIntyre;

– Olive (Lapp) Jeffray Award Micayla Shantz; and

– Volunteer of the year Tami Noble.

Special Skate Canada Gold level tests were achieved by two local skaters this year. These two individuals, Mallorie Jack and Melanie Giles, earned the highest test level possible to both pass the Gold Skating Skills test. These skaters’ names will be added to the banners of the club’s former Gold test recipients proudly displayed in the PMD arena.

 “We are proud of all of our skaters’ accomplishments and hope to see many skaters back in the fall,” Club officials state.
