As cases of flu continue to rise in Ontario, public health officials continue to encourage the community to be vigilant against the spread of illness.
According to the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) unit, this year’s flu vaccine is a good match for the circulating strain of flu, although it takes seven to 14 days after the shot for the body to have full immunity.
Until Jan. 28, WDGPH will have additional staff at scheduled immunization clinics to help accommodate flu shot requests. No appointment is necessary; just drop in to clinics at the following office locations:
– 600 Southgate Drive in Guelph, on Jan. 20, 25 and 27 from 1 to 6:30pm;
– 474 Wellington Road #18, Suite 100 in Fergus, on Jan. 26 from 1 to 6pm; and
– 311 Foster Street in Mount Forest, on Jan. 20 and 27 from 2 to 5pm.
The flu vaccine is also available by appointment at WDGPH’s regular immunization clinics and through doctors or family health centres.
