4th Line bridge in Centre Wellington re-opened

CENTRE WELLINGTON – A new concrete bridge over a tributary of Cox Creek is now open.

Bridge 10-P is located on 4th Line East in former Pilkington Township between Sideroads 10 and 14.

This bridge project was funded partially by the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF).

“Since introducing our two per cent bridge rebuilding capital levy back in 2014, the township remains on track to build/rebuild 21 bridges in eight years,” said Mayor Kelly Linton.

“I am proud to say that yet another bridge has re-opened in our community, providing necessary access to residents and farmers in this area.”

The roadway was closed on Oct. 1, 2015 when the former 80-year-old bridge had serious structural and public safety concerns. The structure, built in 1935, “remained an important link for area farmers and residents,” officials say.

This road has reopened with a new two-lane bridge.

In the spring of 2020 the contractor will return to complete required roadside ditching and grass seeding.

The bridge project was tendered in March and awarded to Esposito Bros Construction Ltd. in Bolton on April 30 with a total construction cost of $993,000. The new bridge is expected to have a service life of about 90 years.
