242 Ross Ferguson Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets honour volunteer

Valuable volunteer – The 242 Ross Ferguson Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets hosted their popular annual lasagna dinner fundraiser at the Erin Legion on Feb. 25. During the event, commanding officer Captain Doreen Marier and past commanding officer Captain Eugene Sidlar presented the Sovereign Medal for Volunteers award to one of the squadron’s parent volunteers, Amy Mazerolle. The medal recognizes exceptional volunteer achievements of living Canadians who have made a significant, sustained and unpaid contribution to their community, in Canada or abroad.

Sidlar praised Mazerolle’s community spirit, noting, “For close to three decades, Amy Mazerolle contributed to several local youth organizations.” Mazerolle spearheaded the squadron’s trip to France to commemorate D-Day. And through her efforts with various community groups such as the Cadets, HEADS Soccer, minor hockey, and Erin School of Dancing, Mazerolle “has helped give local youth opportunities to learn and grow,” officials say.
