The Eden Mills Writers’ Festival is pleased to present a music and literature event dubbed “Taste and Transmission” featuring musical performances by Scott Merritt, Jeff Bird, and Sandro Perri and readings and discussions by Carl Wilson and Sean Michaels at the Ebar (41 Quebec St.) in Guelph on Sept. 11.
Michaels and Wilson will each read from their latest books and then engage in a short “Q&A” with host Liisa Ladouceur.
Following the discussion, Perri and his band will play a set before Merritt makes a rare appearance with his own band. The evening concludes with a round of Golden Throats Karaoke.
Scott Merritt is a Canadian recording artist and music producer who has released five albums. His music is firmly grounded in the songwriters’ tradition, though often features an eclectic approach instrumentally, which aims to underscore the “flip book narrative” quality of his lyric writing.
Sandro Perri is a songwriter and producer of new music. His sound encompasses a broad range of styles including folk, electronic, jazz, pop, noise and ambient music. His most recent album, Impossible Spaces, was named one of the “Top 50 Toronto records of all time” by Now Magazine and one of the “Top 50 records of 2011” by Pitchfork.com.
Jeff Bird is a founding member of the seminal folk group Tamarack. Jeff has scored music for both film and television. He is also an experimental filmmaker and performance artist whose work has been showcased at festivals from Dawson City, Yukon to Vladivostok, Russia. As a multi-instrumentalist he has appeared on over 100 recordings.
Carl Wilson is the music critic at Slate and also writes for the Globe and Mail, Hazlitt, the New York Times Magazine and many other online and print publications.
Sean Michaels is the author of Us Conductors, a dreamlike retelling of the creation of the theremin – a magical musical instrument that is played without touching.
Liisa Ladouceur is a music and arts journalist from Toronto who has written for various print, web and broadcast media including The Grid, Huffington Post, and The Toronto Sun and CBC Radio.
This all-ages/licensed event will be at the Ebar, 41 Quebec St. Guelph, on Sept. 11 at 8pm sharp. Tickets are now available in the Bookshelf bookstore or online via ticketbreak.
