Minto to revisit solar farm

MINTO - Council here will revisit a resolution of support for a proposed solar farm in the municipality. First Ontario Energy and Bondfield Construction are planning to apply under the Ontario Power Authority’s (OPA) FIT program for approval of a 10-megawatt solar farm on leased property between the 16th Line and Given Road in Minto.

MINTO - A staff report indicates the April 12 ice storm cost the Town of Minto about $50,000 and the town is planning an application to recover some of those funds from the provincial government.

Irma Ternan honored with Jubilee medal for decades of work with local CDA chapter

HARRISTON - Long-time Harriston resident Irma Ternan has received a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her volunteer work with the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA). She was presented with the medal by Sue Taylor, CDA senior manager, community partnership programs, on May 9 at the North Perth Wellington CDA branch headquarters in Harriston.

MINTO - Council here has approved the purchase of three pickup trucks from Harriston-based Leslie Motors.

Traffic stop leads to drug charge

PALMERSTON - On May 11 at about 11:50am Wellington County OPP officers performed a traffic stop on Main Street in Palmerston. The passenger of the 2005 Chrysler spoke with police, who allegedly noticed the smell of burnt marijuana.

Town waives facility usage fee for hospital’s Starlight Gala in Palmerston

PALMERSTON - The Town of Minto agreed to waive the rental fee for the use of the Palmerston arena for the Palmerston and District Hospital Foundation Starlight Gala.

PRAC ponders request for BMX facility

MINTO - A staff report presented at a recent Parks and Recreation Advistory Committee meeting indicate some requests have been received from the community asking the town to consider a BMX track in Minto. Options will be reviewed and discussed at an upcoming meeting.
