OPP Inspector Scott Smith moving on

by Kris Svela

GUELPH

Wellington OPP Inspector Scott Smith is moving on.

The inspector is taking up a post with the South Bruce OPP detachment effective July 9. He served as an inspector with the Wellington detachment for seven years.

County Councillor Lynda White, head of the police services board, thanked Smith for his years of service.

“Inspector Smith loves this county and worked hard for the county,” she told county councillors at the June 28 meeting.

Warden Chris White asked whether the inspector could manage to fix any outstanding tickets charged to members of council before he leaves.

The warden likened that kind of move to the pardon granted by American president Gerald Ford when Richard Nixon was forced to resigned.

Smith declined, saying, “I’m not leaving for the same reason.”

“This is the most professional, business-oriented county I’ve ever been in,” he said of his experience.

He was instrumental in establishing the county safe communities committee.

Staff Sergeant Susan Gray will replace Smith as acting inspector.
