Annual Shop with a Cop event a great success

MOOREFIELD

On Dec. 21 Maryborough grade 6 students were surrounded by police officers and firefighters.

The students were transported in police cars and fire trucks to the store and raced to the door to spend $1,100 for the local food bank.

The money was generously donated by local residents and each group of three students got to shop with a cop or firefighter.

Each group had a budget of $100 to spend on non-perishable food items, and used estimation, unit rate and addition skills to not exceed their limit.

Many groups were close, but Tiffany Huberts, Curtis Riddolls and Katie Zwart were the winners, spending $99.61.

Everyone then grabbed their carts and raced down the street to the local food bank at the Drayton Reformed Church to unload their purchases. Everyone ran back to the store for their ride back to school.

Stusdents said they are thankful Ben Dobben organized this special Shop with a Cop event.

Submitted by the grade 6 class at Maryborough Publilc School.
