Drowning in debt

Dear Editor:

I am an 83-year-old grandpa who is very concerned about the financial mess we are handing down to our grandchildren and great grandchildren. The fact is our generation let this happen the last 25 to 30 years (ever since our present prime minister’s father started buying elections with borrowed money).

Our premier and finance minister are planning to do the same this year and for the next six years. They claim they may have a balanced budget. With billions more debt, what they call a balanced budget is not really a balanced budget. What I call a balanced budget is when we are paying our bills and have no debt.

This money to pay the interest, service they call it, would build ten new one-hundred-bed hospitals per year, and equip and staff them. For the federal government the cost of servicing their debt would give our young people free tuition to our colleges and universities right across Canada, and also give better health care.

I know it will be a tough road to turn this financial mess around, but it needs to be done if we really care about the next generations. So, please say “no” to politicians whose main concern is keeping their seats in Queen’s Park and Parliament Hill.

Enough is enough, so please say no to Premier Kathleen Wynne in June and to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the next federal election. We, the voters, are the only way to make this a Canada of which to be proud.

E. Hall, ELORA
