Fire services amalgamation underway

by Kris Svela

KENILWORTH - Fire services in Wellington North will be joined under one name after council on Monday night approved a recommendation from its fire committee to rename the fire service “Wellington North Fire Services.”

Since the township was amalgamated in 2000, fire services have retained the name of the community they serve: the Arthur Fire Department and  the Mount Forest Fire Department.

Under the new name the two departments will be known as the Arthur fire station and Mount Forest fire station.

Similar renaming has already been completed in surrounding municipalities.

The committee is also considering the hiring of a full-time fire chief. However, Mayor Ray Tout said it could take a couple of years before a decision is made on that issue.
