Local MP lauds Layton for dedication

STRATFORD - Perth-Wellington MP Gary Schellenberger said it was  “with great sadness” that he learned of the passing of NDP Leader Jack Layton on Aug. 22.

“Jack was a passionate and caring person and I thank him for his tireless efforts on behalf of local residents in his municipal life, his noble service to the community of Toronto-Danforth as their Member of Parliament, and to all Canadians as the leader of the official opposition,” said Schellenberger in a statement.

“Truly, the political landscape of Canada is forever changed with his passing.”

On behalf of the people of Perth-Wellington, Schellenberger offered his sympathies to Layton’s friends and family.
