Horticultural groups winning photos shown Feb. 16

MARDEN - Guelph township Horticultural Society begins its year with results of the photographic competition being shown at the Marden community centre at 7369 County Road 30 on Feb. 16.

The meeting begins at 7:30pm, with lunch to follow. Memberships will be for sale, which include a card giving members discounts at two local sponsors, and a yearbook with the show schedules and tips on gardening and exhibiting.

A cast of speakers is set for the year. The society will also introduce mini-demonstrations - making miniatures, hand held bouquets, corsage making, and herb drying and preparing the garden for winter. Another trip to South Western Gardens is planned for the summer.

The March pot luck supper will featured the major awards for 2009.

Work continues on the Enabling Garden. Check spring bulbs and roses. This project is a cooperation between the society and the Township of Guelph-Eramosa.

On May 1, the group plans a plant and bake sale to be held in Marden. As always the society will appreciate the donations of members’ and friends’ perennials, suitably potted and labelled.

A new venture is also a booth at the Guelph Home Show, at the Guelph Legion on York Road from Feb. 19 to 21, where the society will display the winning photos, do flower demonstrations, have an activity centre for youth, and sell memberships.

The society invites all interested people to its meetings. Notices will be placed in the local newspapers.
