LHIN launches patient, family advisory committee

WATERLOO REGION - The Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) is seeking patients and families from Waterloo Wellington to join its new Patient and Family Advisory Committee to help “drive meaningful system change and improve the patient experience the community.”

The Patient and Family Advisory Committee will help design and launch the LHIN’s Patient Experience Program, which officials say puts the voice of patients at the centre of health care planning, ensures greater health equity, and influences models of care to create better health outcomes and improve the patient experience.

“The core value of the Waterloo Wellington LHIN is acting in the best interest of our residents’ health and wellbeing,” said Jeff Nesbitt, acting LHIN board chair.

“Only by listening and acting on the patient experience can we truly make it easy for people to be healthy and to get the care and support they need.”

The Patient and Family Advisory Committee will work with the LHIN CEO, staff and board of directors.

“Our new patient experience program will be a key enabler in creating a system-wide culture shift that puts the patient experience at the core of everything we do as a system and at every stage of a patient’s health care journey,” said Bruce Lauckner, CEO of the LHIN.

“It’s about doing things differently - amplifying the voice of patients and families in order to improve health outcomes and improve the experience for residents.”

Residents can submit an expression of interest for a position on the Patient and Family Advisory Committee at waterloowellingtonlhin.on.ca or by contacting 519-748-2222 ext. 3221.
