Academy team wins at National Tae Kwon-Do Tournament

Academy team wins at National Tae Kwon-Do Tournament

FERGUS - A group of 12 students from Centre Wellington Martial Arts Academy located in Fergus recently competed at the 44th Annual Canadian Tae Kwon Moo Do Championship held in Kitchener on April 1.

The team, led by head instructor Chris Mulligan, did extremely well, taking home 22 trophies in 29 events. Competitors took place in pattern, sparring, high kick and sword cutting events, with some winning champion status in multiple events.

“This is one of the longest running taekwondo tournaments in Canada, and we are so proud of how the team performed today, they really set an example for their fellow classmates and represented our school and community with outstanding effort,” said assistant instructor and coach Tyler Roux.

Team results are: Ben Martin - 1st patterns, 3rd sparring; Breanna Mulligan - 2nd sparring; Carter Wright - 1st sparring, 1st patterns; Isabella Cameron - 1st sparring, 3rd patterns; Isabella Mitchell - 3rd sparring, 3rd patterns; Louise Turner - 3rd patterns, 3rd sparring; Madison Cameron – 2nd patterns, 2nd high kick; Nathan Brown – 2nd sparring; Nevaeh Ruzycki – 2nd patterns, 3rd sparring; Peyton Wright – 2nd patterns, 3rd sparring; Rowan Abraham – 2nd sparring, 3rd patterns; Zack Young – 2nd sparring, 3rd patterns.

Promotion

On top of the team winning at tournament, the academy is also celebrating the recent promotion of head instructor Chris Mulligan to 3rd degree black belt in tae kwon-do.

The Academy also hosted a tournament of their own, the 3rd Annual Centre Wellington Tae Kwon-Do Invitational, at the end of April.
