Swimming trials

Abigail McDonald of Elora competed at the Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria, BC from April 6 to 9 with the top swimmers in Canada competing for spots on the World Championships and Junior World Championships Team. Many Olympic swimmers were there, including Penny Oleksiak, Katerine Savard, Hilary Caldwell and Kylie Masse to name a few. For McDonald this was her first time competing at the senior national level and she entered the 200m breaststroke, 200m individual medley and the 400m individual medley. Her goal for the meet was to swim a best time in the 200m breaststroke in order to qualify for an A final (top 8) or B final (top 16).  She was seeded 23rd entering the competition and she swam a best time in the preliminaries, qualifying for the B final in 16th position. Her swim in finals was another best time (2:34.76) moving her up to 13th position overall. She will next compete in the Eastern Canadian Nationals, April 20 to 23. Information about Swim Canada competitions and results can be found on  its website and the Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club website.  Submitted photo
