Annual Take a Kid Fishing Day

BELWOOD LAKE - The annual Shimano Take A Kid Fishing Day will run again at the Grand River Conservation Authority Park on May 9.

Organizers will be able to accommodate 120 children at each of the two sessions (morning and afternoon).

The day is designed to teach children ages 8 to 14 and their parents about the world of angling. Kids will learn to cast, rig lures, tie flies, identify fish species, understand their habitats, and learn how to catch more fish. The event is free but park admission must be paid ($2.50 per child and $4.50 for adults. The day includes free tackle packages, a free barbecue lunch, free fishing skills programs, free seminars, the Ontario Anglers and Hunters Tackle Share program, a fly tying station, archery lessons, and trout fishing at the park’s stocked pond.  There are a number of stations that children can choose from when they register. While the event is free, participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. To register, call 519-843-2979 or email dstrub@grandriver.ca
