Animal tracking workshop to be held at Guelph Arboretum

GUELPH - The Arboretum, University of Guelph is presenting an animal tracking workshop with guest instructor Adrian Driscoll on Jan. 27 from 9am to 4pm.

 

It is for those that have wondered what made those marks in the snow. In the full day workshop, participants will learn how to track animals and study the tracks and signs of Ontario mammals and other types of wildlife.

By the end of the day they will have learned tracking terminology, proper track measurement, pattern classification, clear print classification, compression shapes, general scat identification and track aging theory.

There is an outdoor component that will have participants looking for and following animal tracks. Each participant will receive a copy of The Mammals of The Arboretum booklet, which includes many tracks.

The fee is $75 per adult.

Photography workshop

Guest instructor and photographer Sylvia Galbraith presents a winter landscape photography course at The Arboretum, University of Guelph on Jan. 28 or 29 from 1 to 4pm.

It will include a discussion and visual presentation on the unique challenges of winter photography. Topics include determining exposures and lighting in bright snow, protecting equipment from the cold, equipment best suited for landscape photography and more.

Participants will explore choosing winter subjects and study creative compositions. Then they will head outside to the woods and meadows of The Arboretum to practise. Participants should dress warmly and bring a tripod if possible. All skill levels, film or digital are invited. The course is highly recommended for those who love the outdoors and for artists who take reference photos.

The registration fee is $55.
